1. CLA의 horizontal portion의 loop의 높이를 조절함에 따라 전치나 구치를 depression or elevation시킬 수 있다.
2. CLA에 whipping을 부여함으로써 curve of spee를 leveling하는 효과를 얻을 수 있다.
incisor와 cuspid는 depression되고 bicuspid와 molar는 elevation된다. 이때 상악전치가 whipping에 의해 전방 이동되는 것을 방지 하기 위해 C II elastic이나 HG를 사용해야 한다.

1. CLA 의 anterior portion을 0.5-1mm step up 한다.
2. 하악 CLA의 posterior end를 잡고 gingiva쪽으로 whipping시킨다.
3. 상악 CLA의 posterior end에서 compensating curve를 증가 시킨다.
4. buccal tube의 mesial 쪽에 molar stop을 형성하고 archwire의 distal end를 cinch back하여 combination loop을 activation한다.
5. 3-5 Oz 의 C II elastics and.or HG를 사용한다.
(6) Closing the bite with the CLA
1. CLA의 anterio portion을 0.5-1mm step down시킨다.
2.
하악 CLA의 posterior end를 occlusal 쪽으로 whipping시킨다.
3. 상악 CLA의 compensation curve를 증가 시키지 않는다.
4. cinch back하지 않는다.
5. elastics을 이용한 space closing movement 필요 시에는 c I hoeizontal type을 사용하며 C II elastics을 조심스럽게 사용하여 up & down elastics의 사용을 피하도록 한다.
6. correction후에 오랜 기간동안 passive archwire로 stabilize하거나 light up & down elastics를 써서 combination loops로부터 correction을 강화 시킨다.

(8) Precautions in the use of a CLA
1. CLA의 vertical legs가 soft tissue를 impinge되지 않도록 한다.
soft tissue impingement 시에는 CLA를 제거하여 조절하여야 하며 구강 내에서 조절할 경우에는 archwire가 badly distortion될 수 있다.
2. 모든 sharp edge는 smooth or round하게 해준다.
3. activation은 2mm이상이 되지 않도록 하여야 하며 excessive activation force는 anchorage loss를 일으킬 수 있다.
4. 상악 CLA activation시 3-5 Oz의 light C II elastics이 사용되어야 하는데 이때 force가 excessive하며 하악 구치의 elevation이 일어날 수 있다.
5. space closure동안 사용되는 horizontal elastics의 force는 6-7 Oz로 증가될 수 있다.
6. friction을 감소시키기 위해 CLA의 posterior legs에는 harmonizing torque가 부여되어야 한다.
7. CLA는 2-3주마다 제거하여 symmetry를 유지하도록 coordination시키는 것이 좋다.
8. CLA사용 전 4전치는 contact되어 figure of 8 ligature로 유지되어야 한다.
