Note flattening of wire in bicuspid area, first molar offset, and second molar offset if necessary.

Note: Thicker maxillary canine permits separation in this area. Maxillary bicuspid arch width is considerably wider than mandibular bicuspids because of occlusion of lingual slope on cusp of maxillary bicuspid with labial cusps of mandibular bicuspid. Archwires cross at center of maxillary and distal of mandibular first molar.
